Greetings fellow fans of classic era films and television. My name is Madeleine(but you can call me Maddy). I’m in my thirties and live in England. I fell in love with the classics at an early age and will love them until I draw my last breath. You can read about how I discovered classic era films in this article here.
I’m looking forward to slowly returning to the blogging community. I had to give up blogging a couple of years ago due to severe illness. I’m still very poorly but feel like I want to try and write a bit when I feel I can.
I’m a huge fan of Film Noir, the films of Alfred Hitchcock, 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s British films. I love Japanese and Indian cinema, especially the films of Kenji Mizoguchi, Akira Kurosawa and Satyajit Ray. I love the James Bond film series and Timothy Dalton is my favourite 007, although I like each Bond actor and think they’ve all brought something unique and special to the role.
Some of my favourite classic era TV series include Callan, The Twilight Zone, The Avengers, Kojak, Upstairs,Downstairs, Columbo, MASH, Sapphire And Steel, Blake’s 7, All Creatures Great And Small, Dr Who, Star Trek, The Jewel In The Crown, The Duchess Of Duke Street, Secret Army,The Omega Factor.
One of my favourite actors is George Sanders. Nobody played the charming cad quite like he did. Especially love it when he got to play the hero in films like Foreign Correspondent and The Saint and Falcon film series.
Another favourite of mine is the fabulous Jeremy Brett. He means such a lot to me personally because I’ve taken(and continue to do so) strength from his brave battles with his physical and mental health. A phenomenal actor and a lovely man. For me he is the definitive screen Sherlock Holmes.
Other favourites of mine include Conrad Veidt, Dorothy Dandridge, Audrey Hepburn, Takashi Shimura, Claude Rains, Lon Chaney Sr, Alan Rickman, Leslie Howard, Timothy Dalton, Robert Donat, James Mason, Pam Grier, Edward Woodward, Anna May Wong, Sidney Poitier, Robert Ryan, Stanley Baker, Margaret Lockwood, Marlene Dietrich,Basil Rathbone, Richard Burton,Clara Bow, Anton Walbrook, John Mills, Glynis Johns, Marcello Mastroianni, Gregory Peck, Cary Grant, James Stewart, Dirk Bogarde, Deborah Kerr, Robert Mitchum, Madhubala, Vivien Leigh, Marilyn Monroe, Diana Rigg, Albert Finney, Vincent Price,Edward G. Robinson,Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, William Holden, John Barrymore, Bernard Hepton,Errol Flynn, Trevor Howard, Gary Cooper, Rita Hayworth, Katy Jurado, Christopher Plummer, Eva Green,Ida Lupino, Fredric March, Giulietta Masina, Spencer Tracy, Ava Gardner, Joanne Woodward,Lee Remick, Robert Duvall, Eve Arden, Toshiro Mifune and Jane Fonda.
I’m so happy that you’re here and I hope you’ll join me to discuss classic films and series. My main focus here will be upon films and series from the classic era, but you will also find me writing about films and series from outside of that period as well. I may also write about books sometimes.
